FRUIT NINJA

Normally cutting fruits is boring & non-fun; but now there's FRUIT NINJA! FRUIT NINJA is an application created for the Iphone & Itouch, and recently FRUIT NINJA HD was released for the Ipad. The application was created with a lot of creativity, you notice this while playing the game, because of it's unique User-Interface. Once you launch the application, a creative Home screen will appear. Although the graphics are well thought through & well designed, I think they could be improved. The graphics look a bit old-schooled; once you play FRUIT NINJA you may or may not realize what i'm saying. The aim of FRUIT NINJA is to slice as many fruits as you can without slicing bombs(1 Type of Gaming Mode). The minute you slice your first fruit, the graphics start to get better. Now you're able to see all the juice dripping from the sliced fruit, which to be honest, is kind of addicting to look at! You might ask yourself, "How do I slice fruits?". You slice fruits by sliding your finger across the fruit, & as a matter of fact you do this for the rest of the game's options as well. Instead of touching the screen like you find yourself doing in other games, you slide you finger across anything you'd like to 'click' on.

Navigation

Once FRUIT NINJA launches, the Home screen should appear, with 3 circles containing fruits. A new feature which was added in an updates is the DOJO, located at the lower left of the screen. Then there's the 'New Game' option which is found right next to the DOJO. Last but not least is the Openfeint feature; located at the top right corner, placed diagonally above the 'New Game' option. As I mentioned before, the Home screen could use a bit more graphics, but other than that it's been designed creatively.

Game Modes

Once FRUIT NINJA is launched, you'll be able to 'Slice' the 'New Game' option to access the 2/3 finished game modes. Once you're in that option, you'll be allowed to pick between two game modes: Classic & Zen Mode. While playing the Classic Mode of FRUIT NINJA, you have to slice as many fruits as possible without slicing bombs. The Player has 3 'lives' which are bombs, once you slice 3 bombs the game's over. Players can achieve High-Scores by making combos. You make combos by slicing as many fruits as possible in on go (Applies to both Game Modes). While playing the Zen Mode of FRUIT NINJA, you have 90 seconds to slice as many fruits & make the most combos as possible without 'Lives' & Bombs. Here's a tip for high combos: You can use as many fingers for blades as you want. Personally I like the Classic Mode more, because I think it enables you to achieve a higher score than playing the Zen Mode.

Online Features

FRUIT NINJA contains Openfeint which allows you to connect with other people around the world, share High-Scores, compete, & much more! To use Openfeint you'll need to make a FREE account, or sign in with one if you've already got one. FRUIT NINJA also allows you to post your latest High-Scores to Twitter & Facebook. I think that this application would be boring without Openfeint because you wouldn't be able to compete about scores.

All-in-all, I think this applications has potential to become something greater than what it is at the moment. There will definitely have to be future updates to make this possible, I'm sure the developers are thinking about updates. To be honest I got bored really quickly playing this application, even with Openfeint integrated into FRUIT NINJA. In the end it's just doing the same simple tasks after & after each other. But who knows! Maybe its your type of game.

Carcassonne!

Carcassone is one of a type! It's the perfect game for the whole family. It's a bit challenging for the newcomers, but don't worry, it has a superb Tutorial which you can decide to read or listen to. For the people that know the rules of this classic game, it'll be no problem playing the game. The main aim of the classic game is to expand the "board" by appropriately placing tiles next to each other. The game also allows the player to place Farmers, Thief's, & Knights in order to collect as many points as possible. You will be able to play with up to 5 players in the "Normal Game" mode, under "Local". Carcassonne also allows you to play Online against anyone in the world via WI-FI or Local Multiplayer via WI-FI & Bluetooth. While playing Online Multiplayer, it's only possible to play with 1 other person (2 in Total), but in Local Multiplayer you can choose to play with up to 4 other people (Computer or Human). A new feature added into Carcassone is called the "Solitaire" mode. This mode allows the player to complete a certain challenge with limited amount of Carcassone cards. For every card you place next to another, you will lose a certain number of points. The Points start at 1000 & will decrease every time you place a card until you completed the challenge. The aim of this mode is to finish the challenge with the highest possible points. Carcassone also features a High-Score Leaderboard. The High-Scores consist of the Solitaire mode, Local Multiplayer mode, & Internet mode, although I haven't quite figured out what Internet mode is supposed to display. Unfortunately Online Leader boards haven't been added into the game yet, but will soon. The downsides of Carcassone are that the turn timer while playing online takes to long, & that Multiplayer High-Scores haven't been added into the High-Scores section yet. One more thing I like about this application is that it's possible to play more than 1 game at a time. It's extremely simple to play at least 5 games simultaneously, but the Pop-Ups telling you that it's you're turn in your other games do get quite annoying! Here are a list of other features Carcassonne has:

Carcassonne is definitely a great game, which could do with a few more updates, but other than that, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys puzzle games & doesn't mind giving up a bit of time. I admit that it's price ($4.99) is a bit too much for the game at the moment, but when the developers updates that game, Carcassonne will definitely be worth your money!

Games Faction has introduced us to a new game called Trigger Happy Christmas - a very fun, & addicting game, especially in the Winter Season! This is quite a violent game, so a warning to all the people who don't like violence: This is absolutely nothing for you! This is quite the game, I doubt you'd want to miss it! Lets Get Started.

Trigger Happy Christmas is an extremely fun, addicting, & well-illustrated game. While you're playing Santa & guarding the Tele-Present 2000, Rudolf will be dropping presents from your sleigh. You're job is to not let the Evil Elves get a hold of the presents. From time-to-time, Rudolf will drop certain weapons that you can use to kill the Elves. Flame-thrower, Grenade Launcher, & Freeze Gun are some of the weapons you might collect during the game.

While you're guarding the Tele-Present 2000, you're job is to keep the presents on the Tele-Presents before the Evil Elves snatch them. It's not too hard, since various weapons are strong enough to kill them with one shot - usually. The Elves come to you from the left & right, so when you're guarding one side, they can easily sneak up the other side & steal some presents. It's a wonderful game, which forces you to have a quick trigger finger!

Developer Notes

Breaking News... the elves have gone bad, again, and are trying to ruin Christmas by stealing all the presents. They've hot-wired the sleigh, which is flying around uncontrollably, spilling its contents all over the place.

Santa is running hither and thither trying to gather them back up again but, quite frankly, he's had his fill of the thieving blighters. Time to dust off "Olde Persuader"!

He's not alone though. While trying furiously to bring the sleigh under control, Rudolph is also on hand to supply Santa with the a few more 'persuasive' tools. You know, like flame-throwers, grenade launchers... that type of thing!

Flame-throwers? It Is the season of good will, isn't it?

Err, yes of course. I don't see what's not in the spirit of the season with dismembering elves... hmm, okay good point. Well, to make up for it, you can send electronic Christmas cards to your friends from the game. That way, you even save the cost of those little bits of printed card people usually send.

We all know that Exams, Tests, & quizzes are the worst... This application can get you through them with no worries! This app seems to be the best in its category. Math Solver costs $0.99... It's definitely worth the price. There's no Tricks to the application, it actually does solve equations. The apps solves Linear equations, Quadratic equations, also simplifies expressions, solves literal and radical equations, and can perform arithmetic. If you're having troubles with any of the above, you should consider buying this application.

This app is built as simplistic as possible; once you open the application you can start your equation right away. No waits. No "Option-Screen". Nothing. Just a number-pad. The great thing about this app is that you don't have to fake how you completed the question. Math Solver creates the solution for you & gives you a Step-by-Step tutorial of how it solved the equation. All you have to do is copy the Steps & Voila!... You have your answer. Another great feature this app has is the Text-pad feature. Since there aren't any letters like "a", "b", or "c" on the number-pad itself, the app allows the user to enter these letters with a touch on the text-box.(Above the # Pad.)

Doodle Jump takes Papi Jump to the whole next level!

By looking through the AppStore, I came through a game called DoodleJump created by LimaSky. Obviously the game developers must have been inspired by Sunflats' classic PapiJump. I've had PapiJump on my Ipod long before I came across DoodleJump, so was familiar with the game-play, graphics & what-not. I was ready to leave the Appstore & not purchase Doodlejump as it was $0.99 & PapiJump was free, but I was attracted to something about the game. It seemed "Better", & "Cooler", so eventually I downloaded the App.

Once I got to try out the app, I was stunned by its game-play. It was.....amazing. There weren't & still aren't any words to describe it. Everything about the App is so simple, that's why it's so enjoyable to play. The graphics are by far more enjoyable to play with while playing DoodleJump than PapiJump. I also enjoy DoodleJumps' enhancements far more than PapiJumps'. It seems like DoodleJumps' graphics were doodled on a piece of paper while in the middle of class. With this game being so successful, PapiJump doesn't stand a chance.

The game play's exactly the same as PapiJump with the same feel & accelerometer sensitivity.Tilting your Iphone/Itouch to the left & right adjusts' the characters movement. By Jumping on the small platforms above the character you travel higher & higher.

In DoodleJump, brown platforms break so you better watch out for those. Where as platforms with Springs, Trampolines, & Jetpacks get you higher, resulting in more points for you. You definitely want to try & get onto one of those. Once you get higher & higher you will start to encounter "Blackholes", "UFO's", & "Monsters. These things all "Kill" you, so you definitely want to either shoot them by tapping your screen or avoid them.

Another great feature DoodleJump added was the Highscores which appear at the right side of the screen while playing. As you ascend you can see the last 100 High scores achieved by various people. This is nice since you can see who's beating you & what point you need to reach to beat them. Once you miss a platform & lose, you have the chance to post you score to Facebook & Twitter for all your other friends to see. One last thing I like about this application is that it allows the User to change the levels. This means the User can change to other levels, for example, "The Jungle", "A Snowstorm", "A paper which was doodled on (Original)", "Space", etc...

Let's get right to the Point!

Here are this Weeks' 5 Apps:

Facebook

"Facebook" is pretty well known by everyone! If you have no clue what Facebook is... Don't worry I'll tell you all about it! Facebook is great for networking & keeping in touch with friends, Colleagues, etc... By downloading this app you'll have to already own a Facebook Account at Facebook.com. Once you log-on to FB using your Ipod, you can do everything from Posting to your Wall - Checking out other people. I guarantee you that FB will become your "Most-Used" Application on your Itouch. It's addicting, you can't get away from it, You'll always stay in-touch! A Down-side of this app is that chatting doesn't always work, FB has/had some problems with the Chat Application (Bugs, Errors, Glitches, Etc..), but other than that, It's fantastical! I've had my Ipod Touch for just about 1 Year, & to be honest I can't tell you how many times i've logged onto the FB App... The reason I can't tell you is because... I can't count high! :-) I rate this Application a 4.9/5!

Valet Hero

"Valet Hero" is the typical "Parking" game for the Itouch/Iphone. The aim of the game is to complete several levels, by parking the car in its correct parking spot. You're probably thinking...."This Can't be too hard...." , Trust me! It becomes harder each level! It's not like I'm bad at gaming, actually, I'm quite good! :-) You don't have to worry about getting your car scratched up, crashed, etc... Valet Hero will give you a new one, unfortunately you'll have to re-do the level though... which sucks! :-( The thing that makes this game so special & interesting is that it's so simple, yet extremely deep. Once you download the app you'll understand what I'm talking about. "Simplicity is everything!" That's my quote of the day! :-)

Valet Hero includes 5 unique lots, each with 3 difficulties, plus an endless Marathon Mode challenge!

*As the lot fills up the challenge increases.
*Park a wide variety of cars, while trying to avoid others.
*The better you park, the better your tips.
*Perform “back-ins” and “pull-throughs” for an added bonus.
*Keep your combo going by hitting the gas!

Game Features Include:

PapiJump

"PapiJump" is the equivalent to DoodleJump... Just waaaaay cheaper! If you'd like to buy DoodleJump ( A Famous App for the Itouch), but can't afford it or don't want to pay more, you should download PapiJump. Why? First of all it's free (That's always a + !), second of all it's quite similar to DoodleJump. DoodleJump has more creativity & features...Obviously because it costs money. While playing PapiJump you should try to keep jumping upwards; in other words... Don't fall down! There's absolutely no limit to how high you can jump, the aim of the game is to achieve as many points as possible. It's also possible to jump from one side into another. For example, There's two sides; 1 Left & 1 Right. It is possible to jump into the Right side & appear on the left side; Vice-Versa. PapiJump also contains an Online Scorebored with the latest Top 100 Scores! I rate this application a 3.7/5.

Rope 'n' Fly Lite

"Rope 'n' Fly Lite" is one of those copies of Spiderman! The basic aim of the game is to swing from one building to the next using ropes/string (Not quite sure). There's not too this game at all... like I said, "Simplicity is Everything!" Haha... This game is OK, my favourite part about this game is when the guy misses the building and smashes to the ground resulting in his body parts flying everywhere!!! I think that's why this game has been listed in the Top 50's for FREE Apps in the Appstore...? Too be honest, there's not that much to review about this App. It's that simple! All I can do is provide you a link or 2 to a Youtube Video that shows the game-play. Here it is! I rate this application a 2.5/5.

SheepStacker Lite

To be honest "SheepStacker Lite" isn't that good of an app. Although it looks good & the idea of the game is OK, the game-play isn't that user-friendly... I've played this over & over again, until I finally beat the game. It's not hard at all, the limit for stacking sheep is 40. Once you've stacked 40 sheep, the game is over. You'll have to buy the Paid Version to stack sheep without a limit. There are 3 Game Modes:

Classic: This game mode only allows the user to stack 40 sheep with 4 "Hearts" (Lives).

Baa-lance: In this Game-Mode you have to try to catch all the flying sheep in a Red wagon. You catch them by tilting your Iphone/Itouch left or right. In this Game-Mode you also receive 4 Lives.

Speed Stack: While playing this Game-Mode you try & stack as many sheep as possible in 1 Min. I think the highest I've gotten was 35 Sheep... Can You beat me? You probably could, It's not too hard. The limit for this Game Mode is 40 sheep as well.

My personal opinion of this game is that it's not worth downloading. The graphics aren't as good as they could be, the game requires no skill what-so-ever (Other than Tilting & tapping the screen @ right time), & the limits for a "Lite" App are too short/harsh. I think that the developers could extend the Lite version, since I completed the whole game in a matter of minutes. I rate this application a 2/5.

Review - Week 2: 5 Apps

This week's choice was a bit more relaxed than last weeks' one, because an abundance of great apps were presented to the Appstore. This made my choice easier, I just had to pick the 5 Top Apps. OK... I'm going to stop talking & start reviewing this weeks Top 5 Apps. :-)

Here are this weeks Top 5 Apps for the Ipod Touch:

1). "Sniper Vs. Sniper: Online" is a great application which recently became free (One Day Only). Its' original price was $4.99, which I guess is OK, as a price. When this game launched back 1-2 Years ago it was clear that it had potential to becoming a huge sensation, & it turns out that it IS a huge sensation! The game consists of a "Single Mission" Mode (6 Maps, Campaign, 1 Vs. 1, & Special Missions.) & an "Online Play" Mode (1 Vs. 1 Online & Alliance Attack).

Single Mission:

This Mode consists of 6 Maps. Each Map contains a "Campaign", a "1 Vs. 1" (User Vs. CPU), & a "Special Mission" ( 5 of them.). Doing all of these of each of the 6 Maps can benefit you greatly, since you receive an abundance of practice before stepping into Online Play. By completing the "Special Mission(s)" you receive a small boost (Item) that benefits you in your online play. For example, "Increase Goggle View", or "Increase of Armour". This helps you extremely much when you're playing AGAINST others, or WITH others.

6 Maps.

Selection Mode (Campaign, 1 Vs. 1, & Special Missions.)

-Let's break down "Online Play" & "Single Mission" Mode (Offline).

Online Play:

Once you click on Online Play it shows a Chat room & which "Channel" (Room) you're in at the moment. It gives you an option to play a 1 Vs. 1 Match, or an Alliance Attack. Next to those it also shows your friend list with your friends you added through game play. The Top right corner displays your Rank & your Wins & Losses. ("Thumb up" = Wins, & "Thumbs down" = Losses).

Online Play Screen

-Lets Break down "1 Vs 1" Match & an "Alliance Attack" Match.

1 Vs. 1 Match:

This option allows the user to select another user in the same Channel (Room) to play against. Once you send the user (Your Opponent) an invitation (Including a map selection), he can either "Accept" or "Deny". If he accepts you, you will play on the selected map. You will have to find your opponent in a certain window of a large building (Forest, Castles, Etc... Whatever your Map you chose) & kill him with your Sniper Rifle before he does. Once you killed him a certain number of times, you win! This will bump you up in Rankings.

1 Vs. 1 Online Gameplay

Alliance Attack Match:

Alliance Attack is basically the opposite of a 1 Vs. 1 Match Online. In Alliance Attack you group up with a random User & try to level up in levels (Stages) by killing a certain amount of people each level. This option is great for making friends with other Sniper Vs. Sniper: Online users! There are also an abundance of more snipers to snipe with since it's two players playing together. It's really great fun to be honest!

Friends-list:

The friends-list button allows the user to check if their friends are Online & more.

Worldwide Ranking:

This button allows the user to look at the World-wide Ranking for Sniper Vs. Sniper: Online. To get into the Worldwide Ranking database you should be winning an abundance of matches & Losing very few of them.

Conclusion:

I advise you to go & download this game. This is the 1st Real Sniper game for the Ipod Touch, It did cost money a few weeks ago, now it's FREE!!! If you like Online Multiplayer games & like the genre of shooting (Sniping), this is THE app for you! I rate this application 5/5.

2). "BounceBullet". This game is very similar to "Ricochet Kills: Players Pack" on Addicting-games. There are a few differences though. This application is called "BounceBullet", & It's only designed to be played on an Ipod Touch, Iphone, & Ipad. It features a variety of levels which makes the game even more enjoyable, since each level has its' own twist. :-) Once you start the Application, it will ask you for an "OpenFeint" Log-in, If you have one, enter it, if not... create an account. (Yes... It Is compatible with Open Feint.) Then, once you've completed these things, a home screen will appear, click either "New Game" or "Resume" to continue from the point you stopped at. Here's a little screen shot of the game:

Game-Play - (As you see the bullets bounce around!)

Every level you have a certain amount of bullets to complete the level. In my opinion they give you too much bullets every level.... but HEY, It gets things done quicker & more efficiently. No need to become frustrated... :-) This is definitely worth checking out! I rate this application a 3.5/5!

3). "Live Poker 7K" is an extremely fun & enjoyable game! (If you know the rules of Poker ;-)) You have the choice of playing Poker in a Tournament or at regular Table, with either 5 or 9 Players. I'm not going to get into detail with the rules of Poker, but the aim of the game is to keep winning money by having better "Hands" than your opponent(s). The first time you launch the application everyday, you receive a certain amount of money. This is referred to as the "Daily Lottery". This application is also compatible with Facebook. You can see what rank your friends are & how much money they have. If you are a Poker fan, You'll definitely want to check out this App! I rate this Application 4.5/5!

Tournament Mode - Table Size - 5 or 9 Players.

4). "Angry Birds Lite" is a great game that involves shooting "Angry Birds" at obstacles. It stems from the "Angry Birds" application which is the Full version. This game has 12 levels, each level gets surprisingly harder. As of right now, I'm on level 7, I just can't beat it! :-( But that's just me being unlucky! After you complete the 12 levels, you'll have to buy the Full version to keep playing.The full version costs $0.99 & is rated 5 Big Fat Stars! :-D Oh... I forgot one big detail... It's first in the Top Paid Apps Category!!!! Anyways, why am I talking about paid apps...? Isn't this Blog about reviewing FREE apps? OK, I advise you to go download this app, It's Fun! I rate this application 4/5!

5). "Skype" is a World-Wide used program for Video Chat, Chat, And/Or, Voice Chat. Finally this has been put into an application form. Now you can download Skype onto your Ipod, Iphone, or even your Ipad & do tons of stuff with it. Skype is preferably used on the Iphone, because it has a built in Microphone. This Application requires you to have Wi-Fi, or 3G; Any type of connection towards the internet. Great App! Love It! I rate this application a 3.5/5!

Review - Week 1: 5 Apps

This week I've found 5 Apps to review. The choice was hard, since there were an abundance of great Free Apps available at the App Store! The applications that I chose this week had to meet certain criteria: "Free" (Obviously), "Entertaining", & "Fun to Use". All of the Apps this week meet the Criteria if not exceed the criteria! :-) Note: There's only one application in this weeks' Top 10 which costs money.

Here are this weeks Top 10 Apps for the Ipod Touch:

1). "FML" is a great app for a few laughs & chuckles. People post their problems & issues/stories on "FML" for other people to read (Laugh at). If you enjoy laughing at others' problems you'll really enjoy this App.This Application is rated extremely well in the App Store. This is Definitely worth downloading. I rate this Application 4/5 Stars.

2). "MoveColors" is a great new application for the Ipod Touch which was introduced to the App Store a few weeks ago. Although, this app costs $0.99, it's still great fun to play, even if you only have a few minutes to spare. This game is a mix between Tetris & Bejeweled; If you like either one of those, you'll Love this app! It comes with an online ranking board, where you are able to see other players' high-scores. What is the aim of this game? The aim of the game is to connect those colored boxes in a line from one border (End Line) to another. Definitely worth downloading!!!! (Even if it costs $0.99!!) :-) I rate this application 5/5 Stars!!!

3). "Paper Toss" is an App which has been around the App Store for a long of time. It's definitely a great investment for you Ipod Touch. You can play "Paper Toss" whenever you want; On the Bus, At school, When you're bored, anywhere & any time. The develepers of this App have put a lot of effort & time into this game to make it extremely enjoyable to play. They've added numerous of levels, with great graphics & I'm sure there are plenty more great features to come in the future. I rate this Application 4/5 Stars!

4). "HarborMaster Lite" is one of the most enjoyable & exciting games I use on my Ipod. Actually, It's one of my first EVAR games downloaded onto my Itouch. I think its' name is pretty self-explanatory, the aim of the game is to lead Ships filled with Cargo into their specified docks. It seems so simple, doesn't it? But in reality it isn't at all! This game may take a long period of time, & you'll probably find yourself struggling with it, but once beat your high-score, you'll look back & see how easy it was! Definitely worth looking at. I rate this Application 3.5/5!

5). "Zombie Farm" is a superb game for the Itouch. It's sort of like "Farmville" on Facebook, but with a twist. That's why it's called "Zombie" farm. You plant crops (Zombies as well), when they're done (May take some hours), you harvest them. When you have 16 Zombies you're ready to attack your first enemy. You attack his farm & if you succeed, you might be either given a "Brain" or a large amount of money. If you want a game that uses a farming concept or you just don't know what to do with your time, Zombie Farm is the right game for you! I rate this Application 4/5!

All these applications for the Ipod Touch are truly outstanding & extremely fun to play, but it's only possible to have one application that earns the, "Application of the Week" title. After much thought, I've come to a conclusion, It was pretty difficult to chose an app that would become the "Application of the Week", but I've made my decision... The "Application of the Week" is MoveColors!

I advise you to go download it! It's only $0.99!!! What an amazing deal!
